Stewart’s Photo is offering a multi-day workshop on photographing the Aurora Borealis, scheduled for March 27–29. This hands-on workshop is designed to help first-time aurora photographers overcome the unique challenges of shooting the Northern Lights and to prepare them for the brilliant displays forecast for this spring.
Spring 2026 is expected to be an exceptional season for aurora viewing, as it aligns with the peak of the 11-year solar cycle. Increased solar activity typically produces more frequent and vibrant auroras, and the Fairbanks region often experiences clearer, less overcast skies during this time of year.
The workshop begins in Anchorage at Stewart’s Photo at 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, with an introductory session focused on composition, cold-weather preparation, and optimal camera settings.
The second portion of the workshop takes place in prime aurora territory at Chena Hot Springs, where participants will put their new skills into practice while photographing the highly anticipated spring displays.
A free lens rental from Stewart’s Photo is included on a first-come, first-served basis to help participants capture the Northern Lights at their best.
Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity—at no extra cost—to unwind in Chena’s renowned hot springs after evenings of shooting.
The cost of the workshop is $350 per person, which includes all instruction, lens rental, and lodging. Please note that participants will be paired in shared rooms with another attendee of the same gender. Couples are welcome and will be accommodated in the same room.
Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements, though carpooling is encouraged.
