May 31 – Summer Kickoff Photo Walk: Stewart’s Photo and the Alaska Photographic Center are teaming up to host a community photo walk to celebrate the start of summer. Join fellow photographers for a relaxed walk to capture the beauty of the season while connecting with other local creatives and building the local photography community. The event will also include photography-related giveaways, and participation is free for photographers of all experience levels. Exact time and location are TBD, so follow Stewart’s Photo and the Alaska Photographic Center on social media for updates. Sign-up not required.

 

 

June 6 – Prince William Sound Photo WorkshopSponsored by Canon–Spend the day capturing Alaska’s stunning coastal scenery in Prince William Sound. Photograph dramatic landscapes like tidewater glaciers, floating icebergs, waterfalls, and forested islands, along with wildlife such as sea otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, and bald eagles. This workshop, designed for all skill levels, offers guidance on composition, lighting, and wildlife photography. Participants will travel aboard a private boat reserved exclusively for the workshop, and will also have the opportunity to test Canon cameras and telephoto lenses to get the perfect shot. June 11–12: Introduction to 35mm Film Photography — Learn the basics of shooting with a 35mm film camera, including how shutter speed, aperture, and ISO work together to control exposure while also learning how to read a light meter. Students will practice loading and handling film, focusing techniques, and composition to create sharp, well-exposed images, while also learning about different film types and when to use them. Option 1 – $250: Includes instruction, one roll of film, film processing, and a Minolta X-570 camera. July 24: Fly-Out Brown Bear Photography Workshop — Experience a 5–6 hour fly-out adventure designed for photographers of all levels. After a scenic floatplane flight across the Cook Inlet, you’ll board a comfortable boat to quietly cruise along wild shorelines, photographing brown bears fishing, lounging, and playing with cubs. Guided tips on positioning, timing, and capturing natural behavior ensure an unforgettable opportunity to improve your wildlife photography while enjoying close encounters in Alaska’s rugged wilderness. July 26 – Kenai Fjords National Park Photo Workshop — Spend a full day photographing the incredible wildlife of Kenai Fjords National Park, where animals take center stage. Look for humpback whales (bubble-net feeding), orcas, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, sea otters, bald eagles, puffins, kittiwakes, and other rare seabirds. You’ll also capture Alaska’s stunning landscapes, from rugged fjords and waterfalls to coastal forests. Open-deck boats provide unobstructed views, ideal for both telephoto wildlife shots and wide-angle landscapes. September 11– From Camera Setup to Conservation: Advanced Techniques for Wildlife Photo and Video — Join Kristi Odom, Nikon Ambassador, award-winning wildlife photographer, filmmaker, and conservation storyteller, at the Wilda Marston Theatre at Z.J. Loussac Library at 5:30 PM for a free evening. An Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers, Kristi combines technical skill with emotion-driven storytelling, capturing wildlife in some of the planet’s most challenging environments, with work recognized by National Geographic and Nature’s Best. She will share advanced photo and video techniques and inspire photographers to use visual storytelling to connect people with wildlife and support conservation worldwide. Sign-up not required.
